COVID-19 Vaccine Rollout

Over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, vaccine mandates have been enacted by numerous states and municipalities across the country. In addition to vaccine mandates, there have been many private entities that have stepped up to take on the task of vaccination. In a time of limited vaccine production and distribution, these groups face tremendous challenges in their efforts to provide as many people as possible with vaccination services.

Vaccination infrastructure has been evolving rapidly during the course of the pandemic. Mass vaccination sites have been a key part of the effort to reach as many people as possible. These sites have not only provided walk-in vaccinations but have also provided a range of additional services including pop-up COVID testing, accelerated contact tracing, and information about local resources and services available for New Yorkers.

However, a large number of individuals are still at risk for not having access to vaccines. Vaccine supply is being limited globally and may not be sufficient to meet the demand of all countries for some time. During this period, it is critical that all countries work together to manage vaccine distribution in a fair and equitable manner. This is particularly true for lower income countries that are unable to secure deals with pharmaceutical companies. This is not only important to prevent hoarding and shortages but will also ensure that the most vulnerable are protected and able to receive the vaccines they need.
